Winners of the Love Our Land Contest Announced

The Arts Alliance of Greater Bloomington, Monroe County Identify & Reduce Invasive Species, Southern Indiana Cooperative Invasives Management, and the Hoosier Times are excited to announce the winners of Love Our Land Youth Art Contest. This contest sought to inspire youth in grades 1st -12th in southern Indiana to urgently tell the story of invasive plants and the threat these plants pose to our forests, grasslands, and wetlands. Students were asked to share this information with others in interesting, fun and artistic ways including songs, poem, drawings and theater.

Thanks to local artists Tanya Konerman, Barbara Lantz, Adam Nahas, Gillian Harris, Rachael Himsel and Herald Times K-12 Education Reporter Emily Cox for reviewing and scoring the submissions. Nine winners were chosen to receive publication of their art in the Hoosier Times and will also receive an Arts Alliance Youth Membership ($10 value).

These prizes are awarded to the following students for their creative effort in expressing an understanding of invasive plants and the damage they cause to our environment. We thank them for finding a way to share this urgent message with a wider audience.

We encourage all young people to take notice and take part in protecting our native habitat.
