Callery Pear Native Tree Replacement Program

Are you ready to take down that Callery pear tree on your land? If so, you could be eligible for a native replacement tree!

We are providing native tree replacements of eight different species to Monroe County landowners who remove Callery pear from their landscaping. Here are the choices, subject to availability:

Eligibility
Any Monroe County landowner may participate, though preference will be given to Monroe County landowners who:
  1. Live in one of four project areas with low tree canopy coverage (see the Bicentennial Bond Planting Project Area Map below), or
  2. Live within two blocks (1/4 mile) of a City of Bloomington park, Monroe County park, Sycamore Land Trust preserve, or other protected area.
Application Details
To apply, click the button below. Fill out the form and upload a photo of the Callery pear on your land once it is cut down. We have to be able to identify the tree from your picture. If you have trouble uploading a picture, email it to mciris2022@gmail.com with all the information on the form, including name, address, email, phone number, requested replacement tree species, whether you are in one of the four project areas on the map below, name of neighborhood (if any), and adjacent protected area (if any).  If you remove multiple Callery pears you can apply for additional replacement trees with separate submissions and photos.

Applications are due August 1; you’ll receive notice of your status by August 15. If you are eligible for a free tree, it will need to be picked up at Switchyard Park Maintenance Building on Sept. 10 between 9 am and 1 pm.
