2025 Invasive Tree Removal Funding Assistance

MC-IRIS will provide Monroe County landowners up to $400 to reimburse the cost to remove Callery pear, tree of heaven, or white mulberry. Costs for tree cutting, brush removal, and stump grinding are eligible.

Frequently Asked Questions:
  • Is there a deadline for applications? In order to be considered for a 2025 grant, applications should be received between January 1 and November 30.  Applications received after December 15 may not be received in time to be considered and processed for a 2025 grant. Because this is a new program, receipts received for early applications must be dated 11/1/2024 or after to be awarded a 2025 grant. Apply early! Only 20 applications will be funded in 2025.
  • Can we apply funds to the purchase of replacement native trees? No, funds are only for incurred costs to remove invasive trees. To apply for a free replacement tree or shrub, go to the 2025 Reduce Invasive Species Challenge.
  • How much is available? Up to $400 per landowner, regardless of how many invasive trees are removed.
  • How do I apply for these funds? Fill out this application, including uploading a before/after picture showing the work and the receipt(s).
  • Can I apply for work done in the past? The work must have been done after Nov. 1, 2024 to count for this grant.
  • How can I be sure my tree is one of the invasive species, and how do I make sure the invasive tree does not resprout? More information on both identification and control methods can be found by clicking the species you are removing - Callery pear, tree of heaven, or white mulberry (the same control methods as for Callery pear work for white mulberry).
Note - if you are removing Callery pear, you may also be eligible for a free native replacement tree! Check out our 2025 Reduce Invasive Species Challenge.
